Caerphilly Sport and Leisure Services has been recognised with the Health Impact Award at the Swim Wales Annual Awards 2024/25, held on Saturday 1st February, at the Mercure Holland House Hotel, Cardiff.
The award acknowledges the service’s commitment to improving public health and increasing participation in swimming through the introduction of SWIMTAG technology across the county borough’s leisure centres. Since its implementation in October 2023 at Caerphilly, Heolddu, Newbridge, and Risca Leisure Centres, SWIMTAG has enhanced the swimming experience for customers, enabling users to track progress, set fitness goals, and engage in swimming challenges. The initiative has led to an increase in participation and engagement, supporting people to lead more active and healthier lifestyles.
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure at Caerphilly County Borough Council, welcomed the recognition, stating:
“We are delighted to receive the Health Impact Award from Swim Wales, which highlights our commitment to improving the health and well-being of our communities. The introduction of SWIMTAG has helped more people get involved in swimming by providing an innovative and interactive way to track progress and stay motivated. This award is a testament to the dedication of our Sport and Leisure Services team, who work tirelessly to deliver high-quality, accessible facilities and services for our customers.”
The Swim Wales Annual Awards celebrate excellence and innovation within aquatics across Wales, recognising individuals, clubs, and organisations that have made significant contributions to the sector. The Health Impact Award is presented to initiatives that have demonstrated a tangible improvement in public health through swimming and aquatic activities.
SWIMTAG is available free of charge—customers can ask for a wristband at reception in participating leisure centres. The wristband allows swimmers to track their workouts, monitor progress, and take part in challenges, helping to keep them motivated on their fitness journey.
